Gi called me and said, "Let's ski in the Dolomites",
so I drove across and met him at the
Fischleintal trailhead. We climbed up
and traversed around the south side of the
Oberbachernspitze and Drei Zinnen, then back around the
north side -- also a visit to the middle summit of the
Oberbachernspitze from the south, and a long descent
into the Rienztal to the north.

our route: We started from the
Fischleintal (Val Fiscalina) trailhead at the Dolomitenhof,
which is a short ways southwest from Moos and Sexten, near
Toblach (Dobbiaco) and Cortina d'Ampezzo. We
first climbed south past the Talschlusshütte, and around west
under the north side of the Zwölferkofel
(Croda Dei Toni), and northwest up to
the middle summit of the Oberbachernspitze, then contoured
to the hut at the Büllelejoch. Then down and west across the
top of the Valle de Cengia and up to the Rifugio Lavaredo,
and contoured around the south side of the Drei Zinnen (Tre
Cimes di Lavaredo) to the Rifugio Auronzo hut, and contoured
around the west end of the Drei Zinnen to the Fourcla del
Col de Mezo. Descended a long narrow passage (with a cliff
in the middle) northwest to Rienztal valley on the north
side of the Drei Zinnen, then a long climb up to the
Dreizinnenhütte (Rifugio A Locatelli), then the final
descent ENE below the north face of the Obernbachernspitze
back to the Fischleintal trailhead.
