We started our riding from the
north in the
city of Erlangen. When we reached Nurnberg the first big sight we
found was the Kaiserburg castle up on a steep hill.

We came down the hill and had a bratwurst lunch in the "old city" section

then we headed out of town
south to the Ludwig - Donau - Main canal, with an unpaved (but
mostly smooth) path alongside, and sometimes we encountered other
cyclists on it.

on our way back into the
city of Nürnberg (after an ice cream stop in Feucht) -- we visited the Reichsparteitagsgelände park, and
rode among some of its pretty lakes - - some baby swans on shore,
and in the water some ducks.

some of the construction in
the Reichsparteitagsgelände park is from the 1930's, including the
Kongresshalle built next to a large parade ground.
After riding thru the city
again, we ran into some routefinding problems and a series of tire
problems. With darkness falling, we found ourselves glad to take
some food and rest at a convenient establishment along the road into
Erlangen.

(not what we were thinking of when we bought airline tickets to Germany)
