Passo Gavia (2621m)

It's about 1400 vertical meters (4600 ft) up to Passo Gavia from the north side starting in Bormio.

started riding on the streets through Bormio early in the morning

by Rifugio Berni almost up to the pass, a cyclist from Bayreuth goes off-road
for a closer view of the mountains of the Ortles - Cevedale group (Ortlergruppe)

on the descent south from Gavia

cyclists from Darmstadt encountering traffic lower down

Passo dello Stelvio (Stilfserjoch) (2758m)

It's about 1550 vertical meters (5100 ft) up to Passo Stelvio from the west side starting in Bormio.

cascade of mountain water next to the main steep switchback section up the west side of Stelvio

roadside rifugio above the main steep switchback section

looking down the main steep switch switchback section on the west side of Stelvio
(not as many as the east side)

at Stelvio pass with snow-capped mountain -- not a good time for photos --
but I was happy to get up there on my Bike Friday Project Q (in single-rider mode)

Then I descended the same road back to Bormio for the night. Going down the west side was lots of fun. (and much more so than going down the east side).
